Kabu Oni - View 2

K-K-K-KABUKI. I am only slightly completely excited about this one. If I believed in reincarnation I would insist that I'd been a kabuki performer in another life.

For this assignment I took a very different approach than I normally do, focusing on making very few, very deliberate brush strokes, more like calligraphy than face painting. That being said, it still took me nearly 3 hours.

I am regrettably ignorant in the details of kabuki, but my design for this was inspired by a few classic kabuki character make-up designs, including one for a fox. It got me imagining what a tanuki main-character might be painted up like. I probably didn't make it fat enough, but I think it's a pretty decent start. Tanuki need love too, you know.
